Richard is a highly-regarded director of theatre, opera, film and television, and was Director of the National Theatre from 1987 to 1999.
He began making ads with Tomboy in 2017, with #OKtoSay for the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Heads Together initiative. He has made numerous lauded films, including Iris with Judi Dench and Jim Broadbent, Stage Beauty with Billy Cruddup and Claire Danes, Notes on a Scandal with Judi Dench, Cate Blanchett and Bill Nighy, Allelujah with Jennifer Saunders and The Children Act with Emma Thompson. Richard continues to regularly direct and write for theatre, was appointed a CBE in 1992 and knighted in 1997.
