An independent production company founded by Glynis Murray, built on a pioneering original vision to bring acclaimed film directors into the world of commercial storytelling.

The Children Act

Director – Richard Eyre

Glynis Murray started Tomboy Films thirty years ago, having previously worked for Tony Scott at RSA and spent ten years running Paul Weiland Film Company.

Her initial USP was to bring well-known directors from film and television in to make ads – early signings were John Schlesinger, Fatima, David Leland and Stephen Frears. She went on to work with, among others, Steve McQueen, Clio Barnard and John Madden, and built the company into one of the UK’s most prominent producers of commercials.

A Very English Scandal

Director – Stephen Frears

Today, Tomboy returns to its roots: Murray works with a roster of six directors, all highly sought-after in film and television. They lead from the front – but place particular value on listening and collaborating with the agency. Key to their and the Tomboy ethos is developing close relationships with producers, creatives and clients.

Other Work

In 2017 Tomboy Fims worked on Two Heads Are Better Than One, a series of films for the Royal Foundation of the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Heads Together campaign, aimed at removing the stigma around mental illness. John Madden’s film Ruby and Ed featured Ruby Wax, Stephen Frears’ Fiona and Alistair featured Alistair Campbell and Richard Eyre made Katharine and Caroline with the daughter of the then Archbishop of Canterbury Justin Welby.
